Jilema Ng'wana Shija is a songwriter and musician from Mwanza, Tanzania. A master zeze player and throat singer, Shija pulls themes from the past and present into playful and earnest songs. This collection of tracks was recorded in the open air, in the same setting where you can often find Shija performing for locals at cafes and bars, his soaring voice and the melodic, steady rhythm of his zeze playing rising above the din of life in Dar es Salaam. The songs are in Kiswahili and Sukuma.
